EcoWater Systems discovered that one of its drinking water filter cartridges, sold exclusively through Sears, was contaminating drinking water with potentially harmful nickel chloride. EcoWater hired Padilla Speer Beardsley (PSB) to help resolve the issue. In just six days, PSB helped EcoWater plan and implement a successful national product recall in cooperation with the Consumer Products Safety Commission. PSB utilized a hyper-targeted media relations effort to get the word out to consumers about the recall. The recall received national media coverage and EcoWater retrieved two-thirds of the 14,000 affected cartridgesfar more than it had anticipated. As a result, PSB helped EcoWater retain Sears as a vendor and minimized consumer complaints.
