David Hakensen, APR
Vice President and Director of Media Relations

David has more than 14 years of experience working at Twin Cities public relations firms. At PSB he heads up the media relations practice group, where he helps clients with strategic publicity and media placement issues, and provides media coaching for a number of PSB clients.

In his career he has been involved in just about every sort of corporate situation that could involve the news media, from lavish grand opening events to hostile takeovers. Companies that have utilized his media relations expertise include Pillsbury, IBM, 3M, Lutheran Brotherhood, Fingerhut, ITT, Lands' End, Dayton's, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Yamaha Motor Corp.

David came to PSB in 1984 from Hill and Knowlton, Inc., the international public relations firm, where he was an account executive. While there, he oversaw the corporate identity of a new health care organization and managed publicity projects for a number of local and national companies.

He is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., where he received a bachelor's degree. David was instrumental in helping the college design its communications major program.

He continues to be a frequent lecturer on media relations at colleges and universities and at seminars throughout the country.

Currently, David is a pro bono consultant to the Jones-Harrison Residence, a retirement facility in Minneapolis and serves on the editorial board of Deaconess Press, a Minneapolis publisher affiliated with Fairview Hospitals. He is the "Media Watch" columnist for Twin Cities Business Monthly magazine.

David is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America and also is currently on its board in addition to serving on the board of the Advertising Federation of Minnesota.
